100 MILLION SUNFLOWER SEEDS

I think I have put up a post on this some months ago, but today I saw the work in the flesh at the Tate Modern...it is absolutely astonishing and amazing. The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is a genius..this work is so powerful and the story behind the making of it is poignant. 1600 workers at Jingdezhen participated in the manufacture and painting of these seeds. Each one is completely individual and the number is breathtaking. Unfortunately the public are not allowed to walk on the seeds or touch them which is rather frustrating as one longs to pick up a handful..apparently due to health reasons (dust). Nevertheless - A very special experience

CLEMENTINA CERAMICS IN A LONDON FLAT

Now in overcast but crisply cool London, I feel inspired by the colour details against the grey. My friend Gules whose flat I am staying in has displayed pieces of my work in a most inspiring way, combining other objects, which all work together to bring a South African aesthetic into a London flat.

FROM SLOW KAROO TO FAST URBAN PRODUCTION

From 10 days in the Karoo at the above pace...

To clucking around a bit...

To contemplating the universe...

And then fast forward to back in Cape Town now...

Frenetic production...

From famine to feast - suddenly lots of orders, as well as work needing to be made for Ceramic Art London 2011 at the Royal College of Art AND the Design Indaba in Cape Town, both of which take place on the same weekend, 24 - 27 February...so watch this space! (That is, if I get the time to blog!)
