AN HONORABLE START TO 2012

The first week back at work in the studio - we were delighted this afternoon to be visited by the 'Grande Dame' of design who stepped from Milan to Woodstock (accompanied by Kelly Berman , manager of the Design Indaba Expo)...what a privilege and what a wonderful person - Rossana Orlandi. She loved our joint space and the products of our creativity. Yippee! A great start to the year...

DEADLINE FRENZY

As the end of the year looms, there is suddenly a deadline frenzy in the studio, all round..but currently most felt in the Heartworks section where they are all frantically stitching up monkeys and pumpkin shaped ottomans that are soon to be dispatched to Hong Kong and Paris (I think!) Ceramics section is pretty hectic too..more in the next post on that.

HEARTWORKS STITCHING CLUB

We share our beautiful studio space with Margaret Woermann and her Heartworks Stitching Club..They are currently very busy completing a large order for, amongst other items, a troop of monkeys..so now we have all the little and larger monkeys waiting patiently on a bench to be delivered to their distant destination, surely longing for a lively life abroad!

My wonderful studio space is shared with others, in particular the very industrious "Heartworks Stitching Club"co-ordinated by Margaret Woermann.

This past week there have been a number of busy busy ladies embroidering furiously in order to complete a large order of embroidered buttons. So the energy in the studio has been exciting and contagious...Margaret has been here all day today, and now Sunday night, and I am still working away furiously..inspired by all the activity in that section.

Looking for an appropriate line for the occasion, what comes to mind is one from

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye" . However although this applies philosophically to the group, the work is very visual and very visible and very essential!

NEW BOTANICAL WORK

Very inspired by Margaret Woermann of Heartworks who shares the studio, I have been making work with botanical images...

We are having a celebratory opening of the studio this coming Sat 26th September at 501 Tollgate Industrial Centre, 12 Ravenscraig Road, Woodstock, Cape Town from 11am - 1pm.

My new work will be on show complemented by pressed flowers by Margaret, and embroidery by the Heartworks Stitching Club and necklaces by Peta Becker.
