Then there is a group show opening on Sat 1st December at The Pottershop in Kalk Bay

 

Ceramics South Africa Western Cape is hosting their regional exhibition at The Great Cellar at The Alphen Hotel in Constantia until the 8th of December

The slabbed pot is almost complete...

John Higgins, well-known British potter, presented a wonderful workshop to members of Ceramics South Africa in Durbanville this past Saturday. SO inspiring to watch the ease with which a maker of probably 40 years experience glides through the techniques and skills. He started the day with a slide presentation of his work describing in detail his roots and his influences...what a pleasure and a privilege to be one of the participants.

These are some of the pieces on the exhibition which I found the most interesting. My studio received a merit award for functional piece which was great. (It was a green bottle shaped vase, see earlier blog on National Exhibition)

The opening of the show was attended by so many people I got really excited, wow, so many fans of the ceramic discipline! But sadly this did not translate into the equivalent sales...I can't help thinking that if patrons don't support ceramists, in the end, the craft will become obsolete, a bit like lace-making.
